Selene Mathews is a poet and lyricist based in Melbourne / Naarm. Selene collaborates with musicians to create haunting, atmospheric music centered around storytelling.
Selene works with music and writing as a vehicle for expressing her unique perspective on life. When she was three years old, she was in an accident that left her a quadriplegic. Selene hopes to show people that no matter who they are or what situation they are in they can still do anything.
Selene’s music is also focused around giving voice to the natural world and calling attention to what we take for granted.
Following her debut album Beginning But Never The End with producer Akasha Temple, Selene's new album Beyond is about what we cannot see, but we know.
Beyond is a hypnotic story soundscape, asking people to open their minds and look beyond what they believe or are told. An atmospheric meditation on the world beyond what the human eye can see. A tapestry of sound and words that is at once both epic and intimate, touching on morality, alternate realities, and the limitations of the physical body.
Beyond was created through Wild At Heart, one of Australia’s leading music organisations for artists with Disability. The album was written and recorded with artist collaborators Domini Forster, Leah Senior, Meena Shamaly, Danny Ross, Jesse Williams, Bianca Hatfield, Yannick Rosette, and more.
Beyond is due for release on Friday, May 17, 2024 through Wild At Heart Records.
